Bday/Vday extravaganza
Wow...these past few days have been a whirlwind of fun and excitement. Actually, December through February is our clump of exciting events--Christmas, Tim's birthday, the anniversary of our engagement, my birthday, and finally, Valentine's day. Phew!
On my birthday, we went out (thanks to ma and pa) to Joe's Crab Shack with our favorite crab, Rachel K. Heehee! Tim enjoyed having me don the requisite pirate's hat while employee's sang. Too bad it's nearly a year till his next birthday. But a pirate's revenge is never forgotten...
I had lots of fun presents this year....
Muppet's Treasure Island (Arrrr!) while we're on the pirate's theme
And a Joni Mitchell CD
Another Side of Bob Dylan CD (more about my Dylan obsession later!)
And then, Tim wrote me a beautiful poem (my favorite present of all!)
Since Tim had a night class on Valentine's (Arrrr!), we didn't get to go out. But today, we went to The Victorian Tea Garden, a little tea room on the Southside.
It's a dear little place. There is a box of dress-up clothes by the entrance to the tea-room. Tim looked adorable in his top-hat (though it almost swallowed his head). He didn't like the fur and feather stoles quite as much. Mmm! I almost forgot how good homemade scones are. We had all kinds of other little goodies, like finger sandwiches and petit-fours. And you could sample many different kinds of tea over the course of tea-time, such as Earl Grey Lavendar Tea, White Pear Tea, Honeybush Caramel Tea, and Chocolate-Mint. Tim was temporarily distracted from his coffee fetish and enjoyed exploring new realms of hot beverage sensations.
Afterwards, we walked down to the Silver Eye Gallery, which was having an exhibit of photographs by John Cohen. I need to find out who this man was. He hung out with beat poets, went back into the Appalachian Mountains to take pictures of folk singers, attended Harlem gospel churches to take pictures of religious trances, went to a happening with John Cage, traveled all over the world, and was pals with Bob Dylan. Look at the cute little baby-faced Dylan on the website. Awwww!!!! He forgot to button his pants! Someone needs to take care of little Bobby.
Our day was made complete when at prayer meeting, Pam presented us with Spam magnets to grace our refrigerator. Tim has had a long history with Spam, involving the composition of an Ode to it and impromptu Dadaesque performances of said Ode. Spam, Spam, Spam, wonderful Spam!
