baby stuff

Weeellll....

Tim and I (well, mainly I) have had a lot of fun putting together a baby registry. We started out at babiesrus, but eventually moved our list to Target (mainly because the prices were better and they had really cute Classic Pooh stuff--sweet without being nauseatingly cloying) (It's under Tim or Joanna Smolko). And they had great product reviews.

It's a little overwhelming to think of getting two of everything. But we realized we don't need two of everything, just some of the big things (car seats, places to sleep). And twin things--like strollers---are adorable (if expensive!). And someone has already generously given us their car seat (exactly the model we wanted), so that's one of the big expensive things out of the way.

We figure it's a good wish list, even if we don't get everything, it's something we can keep in mind and keep our eyes open at thrift stores and the like.

Are there any veteran moms (or others?) with suggestions of things that would be good additions? Or things that aren't as important?

What about baby monitors? We had kind of mixed feelings about those. And a lot of the affordable monitors got really poor reviews. Do you really need those, or are babies good enough at making their presence known?

I like having a monitor. In a fairly small apartment it's not as necessary, but like if you have a yard and want to be outside while they're sleeping. It's nice. Or sometimes it's nice to have it on while there's a movie going...

What kind of monitor do you use? Do you recommend it? Is it $$$?

oh, it's okay if you get more than one of the items you request (like the grooming kits and blankets, towels, shompoo, stuff like that). I never returned them, I simple stored them in a baby travel bag. that way, when we went to grandmas or wherever, the girls' "toiletries" and such were already packed and I didn't have to worry about forgetting to bring somethiing, or accidentally leaving it wherever I was and being without it at home. it saved tons of time getting ready to go places, too- after a while I just left it in the car!! (you'll find that getting ANYWHERE now will take 4X as long as it used to!!)

Baby monitors- I had one and really liked the fact that I didn't have to second guess if they noise was from the nursery or not! plus, when the girls got a little older I loved to hear them sing to themselves to talking to their stuffed animals, without disturbing them. my neighbors have a great one and they leave it plugged in all the time. even though there son will be 3 in october, they use it as an "intercom" to talk from upstairs to the person downstairs! Theirs is hyper noise sensitive. I'll email her and ask what kind it was. mine was a fisher price that was 15 years old when I got it (from stevie and crystal who had used it for michael- who is graduating high school this year!!!!) It worked better than the new ones we got as presents. I'll let you know what kind out neighbor has.
