We're home!

Tim home.JPG

We got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. It took a long time to get home! But we had some great conversations with doctors and nurses about taking care of our little bits after we got home. One nurse reminded us that the floor was staffed 24/7 and we could call any time. The kindness of the nurses was one of the best parts of our hospital experience. Almost every one of them went out of their way to help us out. And they all thought our babies were cute!

When we got home, and Tim went out to get my prescriptions, I finally went into shock in the realization that we have two little lives dependent on us. I would look at one car seat and think “there’s a baby,” and look at the other one and think “there’s another baby.” This went on for awhile. I started crying a little bit realizing how completely dependent these two little beings are.
It is nice to be home, though. I took a little nap in the afternoon. Elanor was being a fuss pot, so I took her up with me and plopped her in the boppy. Tim came upstairs and said, “wow, there’s no babies crying right now!” Have the feeling that we won’t be saying that too frequently in the coming days!!

Now to learn to take care of two when I'm not allowed to do much more than pick up one...

We look forward to Spring and seeing you all in person.

Love and prayers to all.

Haha, those nurses showed YOU! Now you'll have to LIKE hospitals and doctors and nurses because they're NICE. :D Welcome home! And remember, people have been birthin' babies and raising twins, triplettes and so on for centuries - and if they could do it in their little one-room log cabin underground prairie huts in the woods inside a cave, then so can you!

how do you take care of them? not day by day-- moment by moment. Just get through each new adventure as it comes and accept any and all help offered you- whether it be caring for the babies, doing dishes or laundry or just keeping an eye on the kiddies while you nap.

forget housework even if visitors are coming and when you make meals make lots extra to store as leftover for those times you don't get a chance or don't feel like cooking.

throw all your old schedules out the window-- the babies make your plans now- and don't expect to eat meals with your spouse (or warm meals) for a few months now.

and the weirdest part-- you won't mind doing ANY of the above mentioned adjustments!

and when in doubt- hold them, love them kiss them-- you can never go wrong when you do that (.. but it's okay to be away from them sometimes too-- breathe in, breathe out...!)

love and mental support
