Covenant College laying off long-term faculty

I have a lot to say about this, but I'm going to hold off until I write a letter to the administration (which, if you're similarly concerned about this, I would encourage you to prayerfully do the same thing). One of the problems seems to be the lack of communication about what actually is going on, how many faculty will be laid off, how the decisions were made, how the budget has been cut in other ways to try to retain faculty, and so forth.

At this point, I'll just say that I'm distressed and disappointed that Covenant may be laying off faculty who have been there for "15, 20 or 30+ years" while simultaneously increasing the budget for athletics (which is now termed a "co-curricular" activity). It's disappointing that alumni and supporters of the college are hearing about this through a national news source rather than through their college or denomination.

Here's a link to the article published by Inside Higher Ed. The comments are quite insightful as well:

Broken Covenant

Even before this came out, Covenant's own student journalists were using their gutsily defended free press to speak out about this issue. One of these articles was published back in December. I'm just sorry that I didn't see these sooner so that I could speak out earlier. Here are some of their articles speaking out on these issues.

And this past Friday, a new article came out:
